History

In 1998 Blackrock Methodist Church began being used specifically for youth work in the local area. A small group of young adults from nearby churches took on the project and began a teenage disco called bounce. This aimed to provide a safe place for young people to come at the weekend. Activities at Urban Junction then grew to include a Friday night youth group for children, homework clubs and drops in times. These were overseen by a manager and gap year team.

In 2003 the building was renovated to make it more suitable for community activities. Since then Urban Junction has grown to include a programme for adults as well as young people, with the building open nearly every day. Our Christian ethos is still very important to us and we have an open gathering weekly on a Sunday morning for music, prayer and learning (please see www.ignitenetwork.ie for more info).
